A Northern Beaches man appeared in Court on Wednesday charged with allegedly running over and mutilating several kangaroos earlier this year.
In September 2024, officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command commenced an investigation into animal cruelty after police located CCTV of an unknown vehicle deliberately running over kangaroos in Running Stream 60km north of Lithgow.
Following extensive investigations, police charged a 20-year-old Balgowlah Heights man on Friday, 18 October 2024, with torture, beating and seriously injuring an animal, recklessly beating and seriously injuring an animal. The driver’s identity, along with his passenger, has not been disclosed. Charges laid could see the North Shore man face up to two years in prison and hefty fines if found guilty.
The man was issued a future court attendance notice to appear before the Manly Local Court.
Police will allege in court the man deliberately ran down several adult and baby kangaroos before mutilating the body of one of the animals. More information will be available in the future regarding this case.
