Right in the sweet spot of North Narrabeen, with sweeping views of the lagoon to one side and the beach on the other, is 4 Knots Café & Restaurant, the perfect place to go for great coffee and a casual bite to eat.
Featuring a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, 4 Knots is part of the North Narrabeen Surf Club and caters to a range of tastes. You can order at the counter, and then choose a table either inside the club with huge windows out to the lagoon; outside on the vast balcony overlooking the beach, or an alfresco table with equally stunning views.
When we arrive on a Friday night, the club is bustling with patrons and the air is filled with chatter and laughter from all ages. It’s casual with a community feel, and the club is open to everyone, not just members.
Owner Sunny Singh took over the license at the surf club in November last year. Given Sunny has extensive industry experience already – he has 4 Knots cafes also in Brookvale and Newport – it was a great move. “People can walk in, order food and sit down anywhere,” Sunny says. “We do nice burgers, fish and chips, salads and the grilled barramundi.”
The food is a delight. Firstly we taste the arancini balls with Napoli sauce, and find them to be bite-sized goodness, bursting with flavour. Then the grilled barramundi hits the table and it’s perfectly cooked, melts in the mouth, and comes with a healthy serving of crispy chips and mixed garden salad.
The prawn and avocado salad is a crowd favourite and we soon see why, with generous helpings of salad, and large crumbed coconut prawns, it’s perfect for lunch or dinner.
For burger lovers there’s a great range to choose from, including the classic chicken burger with fresh, grilled chicken fillet and homemade sauce; the Aussie beef burger featuring an Angus beef pattie and caramelised onion; and the grilled veggie burger.
The café now has its own coffee blend, a favourite with morning visitors, and provides an extensive breakfast menu as well.
Sunny says the move into North Narrabeen Surf Club has been a success and he looks forward to more people visiting and supporting the club. “We’re getting a really good response from our regular customers and the public as well,” he says. “They love it, which we’re very grateful to hear.”
