There have been more than 40 submissions from Cremorne residents regarding a proposed childcare centre at 40 Spofforth Street.
Up to 89 children aged six and under would be cared for at Dashing Ducks Pre-school by 15 staff members. The centre would open between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday.
Local residents voiced concerns regarding excessive traffic as parents drop off and collect children and said that the centre would pose an increased accident risk at the junction of Rangers Road and Spofforth Street.
Residents of the existing apartments said they would have to park on the street as their 30-space car park would be reduced to 11 spaces to make space for an outdoor play area.
Noise was another issue of concern, and residents commented that staff would find it difficult to keep outdoor noise to a minimum in a children’s play area.
Existing apartment layouts and undercroft parking will be converted to accommodate the childcare centre.
Concern was raised about tree removal, the aesthetics of artificial surfaces and garbage storage.
Residents also noted two alternative childcare facilities in the area: Rhonda’s Cottage in Murdoch Street and SDN Mosman in Brierley Street.
The proposal is currently under review.
