The Sydney Harbour Federation Trust (Harbour Trust) has revealed a North Head Sanctuary Draft Master Plan and is seeking community feedback.
The Harbour Trust aims to breathe new life into North Head’s three precincts and enhance the visitor experience. The plan seeks to: protect and enhance existing ecology communities and provide opportunities to increase vegetation cover and biodiversity with the use of native/endemic species; plan for the long-term opportunity to protect the land around the headland; Provide appropriate open space, community infrastructure and leasing opportunities for the site with consideration to education, heritage and Connecting with Country.
The main site entry at the Barracks Precinct will be reconfigured to establish a clear welcome, with new planters, street furniture and new car parking.
North to south shared walkway for pedestrians and bicycles will be established from the Barracks Precinct to the North Fort Precinct and the Fairfax walk.
The Central Precinct will see a new space developed to house First Nations cultural practice, community facilities and dedicated education programs.
The North Fort Precinct will have a new military loop pathway and an enhanced memorial walk to include immersive tunnel tours of the plotting room, observation posts and guns with soundscapes and activations.
