Northern Beaches children’s author Nat Amoore celebrated Book Week with country kids at Manly’s children’s charity Royal Far West.
The charity’s Chief Executive Officer Jacqueline Emery said that kids from regional and remote Australia don’t get opportunities to meet writers or artists and she was very excited to have a local author visiting the kids. “I can’t thank Nat enough for inspiring these kids and letting them believe in the power of storytelling.”
Ms Emery said that it’s difficult for families to get appointments for their children in rural Australia and that country kids are more likely to begin school developmentally vulnerable than city kids.
“As a kid growing up on a small farm, we never had an author visit our school. So I never imagined I could be one,” said Ms Amoore. “How cool is it that I can now show kids that anyone can become an author? Even me!”
Children and their families visit Far Royal West for a week long stay, when they will have access to a multidisciplinary team including paediatrics, speech pathology and occupational therapy.
