The New South Wales Government is inviting the public to provide feedback and comments on the NSW Skin Cancer Prevention Strategy. With the primary objective of reducing the incidence of skin cancer in the state, the strategy aims to implement comprehensive skin cancer prevention initiatives across the public sector, private sector, and community.
The goals include improving access to sufficient shade in various settings such as workplaces, schools, recreational areas, and public spaces and fostering the adoption of sun protection behaviours within the community.
The draft emphasizes the crucial role of adequate shade at the community level, specifically in public infrastructure and green spaces. It recognises the need to create awareness regarding the supplementary benefits of sun protection to make skin protection a routine practice.
The strategy intends to evaluate the impact of public education campaigns and other interventions that support sun protection behaviours.
The Cancer Institute NSW will consider the feedback received from the public to finalise the NSW Skin Cancer Prevention Strategy. The survey will be open until 4 June.
