Mackellar’s ‘big’ survey reveals community concerns

Federal member for Mackellar Dr Sophie Scamps MP recently released the results of her first community survey.

The survey was created to provide ‘valuable insight into the issues the community want to see more action on’ and to outline the top 10 national and local concerns earmarked by the electorate residents.

“Listening is a two-way exercise, so while many MPs conduct community surveys, it was important to me that I also shared the results of this community survey in a timely, transparent and clear way with the people of Mackellar,” Dr Scamps MP says.

Regarding local issues, the survey revealed ‘environmental protection’, ‘hospitals and health services’, and ‘overdevelopment’ are the main concerns for Mackellar residents.

“Our community is also incredibly concerned about the health of our local environment. The legacy of Scott Morrison’s multiple ministry scandal is that our coastline is still under threat from the PEP11 oil and gas drilling licence,” Dr Scamps MP says.

“Our bushland is also under threat from overdevelopment. I commit to continuing to fight for our community so neither of these projects go ahead.”

On the list of national concerns, the top 10 is led by ‘climate change’, ‘environmental protection’ and ‘integrity and tackling corruption’.

“At a national level, the survey also found that restoring integrity in Federal politics was a top issue for our community,” Dr Scamps MP adds.

The survey, conducted between October and December 2022, attracted over 3,400 responses from local community members.

A total of 1,311 surveys were completed online and 2,091 paper surveys were filled out following an electorate-wide letterbox drop and ‘street listening’ campaign.
