The 77th Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Awards Shortlist for 2023 has been announced with a locally based author mentioned among the names.

Many talented writers and writers have participated this year, delivering diverse forms of narratives per each category: Older Readers, Younger Readers, Early Childhood, Picture Book, New Illustrator, and the Eve Pownall Award.

Northern Beaches based author Pip Harry, has been shortlisted for the Younger Readers Award for her big-hearted story, ‘August & Jones’.

CBCA National Chair Wendy Rapee said, “We acknowledge the power of, and the ever-changing nature of language. Our awards for 77 years have always celebrated stories of relevance, we value highly stories that speak directly to the reader of their time.”

The CBCA Book of the Year Awards are recognised as Australia’s most prestigious children’s literature awards. Winners and Honours of the CBCA Book of the Year will be announced on Friday 18 August 2023.
