Northern Beaches council has announced it will continue to phase out single-use plastic with the next stage of the ban due to commence on 1 November.
It is understood, a number of food service items including, single-use plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery along with single-use plastic plates and bowls and expanded polystyrene foodware will soon be completely phased out.
The changes come after the ban on lightweight plastic bags that took place in June this year in conjunction with the harsh reality of single-use plastic items making up 60% of all litter in NSW.
Council says the ban on these single-use plastics are the first steps in making sure the oceans, natural environment and wildlife aren’t as threatened by plastic in the future.
Thankfully, many locals on the Northern Beaches have already kicked the single-use plastic habit by pledging to swap them out.
