Willoughby city council has made a call out for more bus services following the impact of planned snap shutdowns of Northern Sydney train lines.

The announcement from NSW government comes after works are expected to take place over the coming months to connect the metro northwest line and Sydney metro city and southwest line at Chatswood.

It is understood NSW government notified council that lines including the T1 North Shore between Gordon and North Sydney as well as metro services between North Ryde and Chatswood would be closing from Monday 3 October to Friday 7 October.

The snap shutdown will also proceed between 8 October and 9 October for the T1 North Shore line between Hornsby and Wynyard as well as the metro line between Tallawong and Chatswood.

Willoughby Mayor Tanya Taylor said council will be urging the NSW government to put more effort into alternate transport services and actions to allow local centres to continue to effectively operate.

At the same time as the rail line shutdowns, NSW government has also announced it will be putting significant road detours in place north of Artarmon to allow contractors for Sydney Metro to install a stormwater pipe.

Brand Street at Artarmon will temporarily be one-way (eastbound) between Hampden Road and Elizabeth Street from Friday 30 September to Friday 25 November.
