Northern Beaches council and the NSW government has committed to $5 million of funding to go towards the rebuild of the Warringah Recreation Centre.
The delivery of funding was made successful as council received over $3 million from the state government after committing to almost $2 million of its own funds to the project.
The funds will deliver a new multi-sport facility with a minimum of three indoor squash courts and spectator seating, fully accessible public amenities, change rooms, community storage, five new synthetic tennis courts with floodlights, as well as footpaths, bike racks and landscaping.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the grant will help enable the community to enjoy and take part in sport now and into the future.
“This rejuvenated asset, particularly with accessible amenities, will replace an existing facility that no longer meets the needs of our community and will support the huge growth in sports participation amongst woman and girls,” he said.
“A big thank you to the state government for supporting our local sport infrastructure.”
The project is expected to commence by July 2023 with construction completed by 31 December 2025.
