Northern Beaches Council is seeking input from the community regarding a proposed community garden in Bayview. The local garden group has suggested the establishment of a community garden at the Annam Road Reserve, where it plans to grow organic produce and flowering plants, as well as promoting sustainable lifestyles and fostering a neighbourhood hub.
In keeping with its commitment to environmental, social and educational benefits, the proposed garden would be managed by the garden group, and take into consideration the potential impacts on neighbours and the environment.
Community gardening has become an increasingly popular recreational activity that contributes to the health and well-being of the community.
This proposal aims to provide a space for sharing knowledge and skills about organic gardening and sustainable living while providing an opportunity for social interaction. Currently, there are six community gardens successfully operating on Council land at Balgowlah, Seaforth, Freshwater, North Curl Curl, Manly Vale, and Newport.
The draft REF and a comment form are available on the Council website. Submissions can be made online or by emailing council@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au, and close on 28 May.
