If elected, Labor would give $13 million to Northern Beaches Council to fast-track flood mitigation works on the Wakehurst Parkway.

This funding will add to the money allocated to this project, allowing the work to be completed more rapidly and to allow for any potential changes in the scope of the project given the persistent flooding issues that have occurred.

Labor has said it would use the next NSW budget cycle to assess the adequacy of project funding for the Wakehurst Parkway and would hold discussions with the Federal Government ahead of its budget cycle about future Federal funding for the road.

Wakehurst Parkway is a vital thoroughfare for the northern Sydney community as the only direct route to the Northern Beaches Hospital for a large part of the Northern Beaches.

Some sections are closed by flooding seven times a year and some parts are amongst the most dangerous black spots on the Northern Beaches.
